"As a child my fear of darkness was a crippling obstacle with which I battled until a science teacher helped to demystify it with her pragmatic insight into the physics of light. She reshaped my understanding leading me to rationalize & contain my fear. In proceeding years her positive influence inspired an interest in astrophysics & my consequent discovery of the phenomenon known as dark matter. Misguided compulsion drove a need to understand this enigma in more depth & it was this knowledge which unleashed a chilling irony. The fact that there was an ambiguity in the fabric of space & time, which science acknowledged but could not quantify, seemed like a strange & terrifying affirmation of the irrational horrors from my childhood. So now as night falls & the darkness unfolds itself around me, I peer into its mass & shudder as I attempt to confront the frontiers beyond which empirical logic breaks down. A realm where the mind truly lies at the mercy of the unknown..."
